Music at St Joseph’s
It is our Intent at St Joseph’s that all children are inspired and motivated by music and find enjoyment in all forms of music. Music is a vehicle for personal expression and can play an important role in the development of children. As a consequence, every class teaches music as part of the curriculum. We follow the SingUp Music lesson Scheme for Primary pupils, which not only fulfils all the expectations of the National Curriculum, but allows children to reflect on the culture of our community, our society and consequently the world children live in. At St Joseph’s, we provide opportunities for children to create, play, perform and enjoy music. We help children to learn to appreciate a wide variety of genres and styles of music.
In non-Covid times, children have regularly taken part in Singing Assemblies, Christmas performances, end of Y6 musicals, Carol-singing at different venues, Cluster performances and been part of the School Choir. Although currently, these activities have been severely curtailed, we hope that we will soon be able to offer them once more to the children. Above all, we want children to feel comfortable with music and that it will lead them to taking up musical opportunities later on in life with confidence and excitement.
