Music at St Joseph’s

It is our Intent at St Joseph’s that all children are inspired and motivated by music and find enjoyment in all forms of music.  Music is a vehicle for personal expression and can play an important role in the development of children.  As a consequence, every class teaches music as part of the curriculum.  We follow the SingUp Music lesson Scheme for Primary pupils, which not only fulfils all the expectations of the National Curriculum, but allows children to reflect on the culture of our community, our society and consequently the world children live in.  At St Joseph’s, we provide opportunities for children to create, play, perform and enjoy music.  We help children to learn to appreciate a wide variety of genres and styles of music.

Children have opportunities throughout their school life to take part in Singing
Assemblies, Christmas performances, end of Y6 musicals and other performances. There is a regular after-school singing club for children who enjoy singing for fun.

The school is now linked to Bristol Beacon and through this local Music Hub we can offer instrumental tuition to small groups of children in a variety of instruments. Bristol Beacon Tutors can also help students to take their learning to the next level with music exam support, out of school ensemble sessions and provide access to opportunities for gifted pupils.

Above all, we want children to feel comfortable with music and hope that it will lead them to taking up musical opportunities later on in life with confidence and
excitement.
